First Tuesday Night Ride of 2009

Tuesday Night Riders open to a Sunny, but Brisk Ride -

With a cold breeze off of the still frozen Carey Lake (look behind riders in photo) not many of our 15 rides took time to pose for our opening Tuesday Night Ride.  As usual our ride started   at the Hardee's parking lot in Hibbing.  On this occasion representatives from the Habitat for Humanity 500 Bike Ride (see announcement elsewhere on our website) spoke to us concerning their 2009 ride and handed out brochures.  Then it was off to Carey Lake on a sunny 10.4 mile ride.  The halfway point was at the historic ruins of the DuPont explosives building, but with the wind coming across the ice on the lake the stop was brief.  This Thursday the ride will be similiar, but with a bit more length.

Riders Steve, Ed, Molly & Tommy shown.

Ed's Letter to Cycle Mesabi - Spring 2009

2009 - Cycle Mesabi's 20th year!Ed Beckers

Although I swore mightily to God that I was not going to do even this much anymore, I couldn't allow Henry to be the only one working on this great new idea for our upcoming ride season. He already has worked hard enough.

Back at Hugh's pizza party in October, Dave and Darlene had an idea of assigning rides to each Tuesday and Thursday nights instead of names of members who then had to come up with a route for that evening. While we had been doing it this way for 19 years, it didn't take long for the rest of us to see that this new way would be much simpler and better.  (Click Below to Read More)

North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity would like to invite Cycle Mesabi riders to participate in their 2010 Habitat 500 Bike Ride, July 11 - 17th.

The 2010 Habitat 500 bike ride will be coming through Hibbing this year. The 130 riders will arrive in Hibbing on July 14th and stay through the 15th. Our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate was chosen to host the 1800th Habitat home built in Minnesota and the Habitat 500 bike riders will be helping to
build it on July 15th.

The ride will be held from July 11th through the 17th.

We are looking for riders in the Hibbing area who would like to do this ride this year. There is a $175 registration fee and each rider raises $900 for their Habitat affiliate of choice.

A team of riders can be formed to ride where one member rides one day and then another member takes day two and so on. The team then raises $900 between themselves.

The route:

Day 1 - 55 miles
Sunday, July 11
Sandstone to Isle

Day 2 - 75 miles
Monday, July 12
Isle to Hill City

Day 3 - 70 miles
